Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop and market integrated power generation and electrical infrastructure solutions aimed at meeting growing electricity demand, particularly from data centers and industrial facilities.

The agreement combines Ansaldo Energia’s gas turbine and generator technologies with Hitachi Energy’s capabilities in high-voltage equipment, transformers, automation, power electronics and grid integration.

The companies intend to develop scalable power solutions for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz markets, including the United States, where rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers is increasing demand for reliable electricity supplies.

The collaboration will focus on integrating power generation with transmission and distribution infrastructure through to the point of consumption. Target applications include data centers, energy hubs and other large electricity consumers.

“Power demand is growing at a pace we have not seen for decades as the world enters the electricity era,” said Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO of Hitachi Energy. “As power demand continues to outpace available infrastructure, the need for scalable, rapidly deployable power solutions has become increasingly urgent.”

Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, said combining the companies’ technologies would help accelerate project deployment while providing the flexibility and reliability required by industrial and digital infrastructure.

Focus on integrated systems

The partnership reflects growing interest in coordinated power generation and electrical infrastructure solutions as data center developers and industrial operators seek to address grid capacity constraints and accelerate access to electricity.

Ansaldo Energia manufactures gas turbines, steam turbines and generators for large-scale power plants, with equipment installed in approximately 1,000 facilities worldwide. Hitachi Energy provides grid infrastructure and integration technologies.

The companies also plan to explore autonomous and integrated data center operations through Hitachi’s HMAX Data Center technology.

The agreement establishes a framework for developing and marketing the integrated solutions. The companies did not announce specific projects, equipment orders, generating capacities or deployment schedules.
