Cheniere Energy achieves LNG milestone

First train at Corpus Christi operational

Cheniere Energy announced it has reached substantial completion of Train 1 at its Corpus Christi Stage 3 Liquefaction Project (CCL Stage 3), a major step in its ongoing expansion of LNG production capacity. The milestone was achieved on March 16, with commissioning complete and the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction partner, Bechtel Energy, transferring care, custody, and control of the facility to Cheniere.

With Train 1 now operational, Cheniere will begin reflecting financial results from liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales in its statement of operations. The company emphasized that the achievement came ahead of schedule and on budget.

“This marks another important milestone for Cheniere and highlights the continued success of our partnership with Bechtel,” said Jack Fusco, Cheniere’s president and CEO. “We are focused on safely bringing the remaining trains online, expanding global LNG supply, and creating long-term value for stakeholders through disciplined growth at our Corpus Christi platform.”

Cheniere issued full notice to proceed to Bechtel in June 2022. Since then, the project has seen significant progress, including the production of its first LNG in December 2024 and the loading of its first cargo in February 2025. The CCL Stage 3 expansion consists of seven midscale LNG trains, which will collectively have a production capacity of more than 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) once completed.

As of Jan. 31, the overall project completion stood at 78.3%, with engineering and procurement nearly finished. Construction is expected to accelerate as the remaining trains are brought online. Upon completion of all seven trains, the Corpus Christi facility will have an annual production capacity of over 25 mtpa.

Cheniere, the leading U.S. producer and exporter of LNG, operates one of the world’s largest liquefaction platforms, with production capacity of over 46 mtpa across its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities. The company continues to pursue additional growth opportunities along the LNG value chain, including further liquefaction expansions.
