SIAD to supply ultra-low carbon methanol project
October 28, 2025
Global engineering effort will support one of the world’s largest green methanol facilities in Mexico
The Pacifico Mexinol project site is located on land currently used for agricultural between Los Mochis and Topolobampo in Ahome, Sinaloa, Mexico. The pipeline to the port will be buried next to an existing gas pipeline to the Port of Topolobampo. An existing pier will be used to load vessels transporting methanol to the world.
SIAD Americas LLC announced that parent company SIAD has been selected to provide an air separation unit (ASU) for the Pacifico Mexinol project, an ultra-low carbon methanol complex under development in Sinaloa, Mexico. The project will mark a major milestone for SIAD’s global engineering and manufacturing network, led by SIAD Macchine Impianti, which will coordinate engineering and fabrication from multiple continents.
The ASU will produce approximately 3,500 metric tons per day (MTPD) of high-purity oxygen, a key feedstock for Pacifico Mexinol’s gasification and carbon capture processes. Once operational, the ASU will play a central role in enabling the facility to achieve net-zero carbon emissions while producing ultra-low carbon methanol at scale.
“We are proud to partner with Transition Industries and contribute our expertise to what will be one of the world’s most sustainable chemical facilities,” said Ed Hotard, chairman and CEO of SIAD Americas. “Our selection reflects the strength of SIAD’s global engineering team and our commitment to delivering exceptional value to customers.”
Global execution model
The ASU project will draw on SIAD’s worldwide engineering capabilities, with design and project management supported from centers in Bergamo, Italy; The Woodlands, Texas; and Hangzhou, China. Equipment will be sourced from the United States, China, and Europe, with fabrication taking place at SIAD facilities in Hangzhou and at the company’s new manufacturing site in Porto Marghera, near Venice.
“Being chosen for this landmark project is a testament to SIAD’s global engineering capabilities and our proven technology in large-scale air separation,” said Paolo Ferrario, general manager of SIAD Macchine Impianti.
According to SIAD, the unit will be designed for high efficiency and reliability to meet Pacifico Mexinol’s stringent environmental and operational targets. The company’s distributed sourcing and fabrication strategy is expected to streamline delivery and optimize project costs.
Pacifico Mexinol, led by Houston-based Transition Industries LLC in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is expected to become the largest standalone ultra-low-carbon chemical production facility in the world when completed in 2029. It will also rank among the world’s largest producers of green hydrogen and green methanol, supplying low-carbon feedstock to industrial and energy markets.
Rommel Gallo, CEO of Transition Industries, said the selection of SIAD for the project’s air separation system reinforces Pacifico Mexinol’s commitment to applying the best available technology. “This partnership is another key step in integrating the best available technology to meet our ambitious sustainability and operational goals,” he said. “The selection of SIAD for this critical piece of infrastructure ensures that the Pacifico Mexinol project will be equipped with a world-class, highly efficient air separation plant.”
SIAD Group background
Founded in 1927 and headquartered in Bergamo, Italy, SIAD is a family-owned industrial gases and engineering company with annual revenue of about $1.1 billion and 2,278 employees. Its engineering arm, SIAD Macchine Impianti S.p.A., designs and manufactures process equipment including air separation units, CO2 recovery and liquefaction systems, small-scale LNG plants, biogas upgrading systems, combustion systems, and reciprocating compressors.
SIAD has delivered more than 500 ASUs, 300 CO2 plants, and over 5,000 reciprocating compressors worldwide. SIAD Americas LLC, based in The Woodlands, Texas, oversees the group’s operations across the Americas.
Transition Industries develops world-scale, net-zero carbon methanol and green hydrogen projects in North America to promote environmental and social sustainability.
Pacifico Mexinol represents the company’s flagship initiative — one that will integrate global expertise, sustainable design, and advanced process technologies to advance the clean energy transition in Mexico and beyond.
