Capstone adds 2 MW to New Mexico midstream power project
September 16, 2026
Additional C1000S gas turbines bring distributed generation fleet to 12 MW across six interconnected gas facilities
Capstone Energy+ has delivered two additional C1000S Signature Series gas turbine systems for a midstream natural gas infrastructure project in southern New Mexico, expanding the customer’s on-site generation fleet to 12 MW.
The additional 2 MW represents the latest phase of a multi-year deployment secured through Capstone distributor Horizon Power Systems. The unidentified midstream operator now has 12 C1000S systems operating across six interconnected natural gas facilities.
Capstone Energy+ has delivered two additional C1000S Signature Series gas turbine systems for a midstream natural gas infrastructure project in southern New Mexico.
The project encompasses more than 200,000 acres and 200 miles of gathering pipelines. According to Capstone, utility power is unavailable at several remote compressor stations, requiring the operator to use distributed generation to support operations.
The sites also present operating challenges that include high altitude and significant seasonal temperature changes. Capstone said the operator required a system that could be deployed quickly while meeting emissions and reliability requirements.
“From the early stages of Capstone’s development, oil and gas operators recognized the value of our gas turbine technology,” said Vince Canino, president and CEO of Capstone Energy+. “Our low maintenance design makes our products particularly well suited for remote and challenging operating environments.”
Fleet expanded over three years
The deployment began in 2024 with eight C1000S systems supplied as rental units. The operator purchased two additional systems in 2025.
In 2026, the customer exercised an option to purchase the original eight rental units and acquired another two C1000S systems, increasing the installed fleet to 12 units.
“This project demonstrates the value of giving customers a flexible path from rental deployment to long-term ownership,” said Sam Henry, principal of Horizon Power Systems. “By combining Capstone’s proven gas turbine technology with responsive local service and support, we’ve helped deliver a reliable power solution for a complex, fast-moving project.”
The C1000S is a modular power system based on Capstone’s 200-kW gas turbine technology. Capstone said its turbine design uses air bearings and a single moving part to reduce maintenance requirements. The multi-bay configuration also provides redundancy, allowing individual turbine modules to operate independently and helping maintain power availability during maintenance or changes in load.
The New Mexico installation is part of a broader market for distributed generation at oil and gas facilities where grid power is unavailable, constrained or cannot be deployed quickly enough to support new infrastructure.
Capstone said its gas turbine systems can operate on a range of gaseous fuels and are used for behind-the-meter power applications in energy, industrial, commercial and other markets.
