Burckhardt Sets New Sealing Benchmark

By DJ Slater19 November 2020

Burckhardt Compression has set a new benchmark with the durability of its sealing elements. The company’s Persisto materials in Redura piston and packing configuration on an oil-free API 618 process gas compressor retained their integrity after 27,000 operating hours, setting a new company benchmark.

Burckhardt Compression realized this benchmark after visiting a customer site in Germany in September. The customer uses the oil-free process gas compressor at its plant to compress a hydrogen and carbon monoxide mixture, and turned to Burckhardt for its sealing technology. Because the compressor is oil-free, it required wear parts that could hold up against this form of stress, Burckhardt Compression said.

Burckhardt Compression reviewed the compressor in September 2020 after 27,000 operating hours (more than three years), as part of the plant’s overall maintenance plan. The installed sealing rings still showed good sealing efficiency, the company said.
