New NexGen 400 expands distributed power options for remote and high-demand environments

Baseline Energy Services LP has launched the NexGen 400, a 400 kW mobile natural gas generator engineered for high-performance, low-emissions applications in the natural gas industry and other energy-intensive sectors.
The new unit delivers 385 kW of continuous power from a 581-horsepower, spark-ignited engine fueled by pipeline-quality natural gas (~1,000 BTU). According to the company, the NexGen 400 represents a roughly 25% improvement in continuous-duty power output compared to legacy models—making it the most powerful and efficient generator in Baseline’s fleet to date.
Baseline’s new genset is designed for deployment in mission-critical applications, including oil and gas operations, gas processing plants, and other remote or off-grid locations where reliability and clean combustion are paramount. Field-tested under extreme temperature and altitude conditions, the unit is backed by 24/7 monitoring from Baseline’s centralized control room to ensure uptime and performance.
For the natural gas industry in particular, the NexGen 400 offers a flexible solution for mobile power generation in wellsite development, midstream compression, and processing infrastructure, the companies said. Its ability to operate efficiently on variable BTU gas and scale up in parallel to 15 MW makes it suitable for microgrid integration, peak shaving, and emergency backup.
The NexGen 400 is equipped with advanced sensors that monitor the fuel’s BTU content before combustion, allowing the engine to automatically adjust operational parameters for optimal power and emissions performance. Lab-certified tests show that the unit emits 90% less NOx and 69% less carbon monoxide than the most stringent federal and state limits for similar engine classes.
The genset also supports remote visibility into performance metrics such as kilowatt output, load percentage, fuel pressure, engine temperatures, and gas composition, giving both Baseline and its customers real-time insight into system health and fuel quality.
Parallel-capable and deployable in modular configurations, multiple NexGen 400 units can be combined to quickly deliver up to 15 MW of distributed power generation. This makes it suitable for a wide range of operational scales, from single-site deployments to larger industrial projects requiring scalable solutions.
With more than 3,500 mobile power projects completed and over 20 million cumulative run-time hours, Baseline’s fleet of more than 1,200 units—including capacities from 50 kW up to 400 kW—has achieved better than 99% uptime, according to company data.
Founded in 2012, Baseline Energy Services provides natural gas-fueled mobile power generation solutions for sectors including oil and gas, data centers, advanced manufacturing, and process industries. The company focuses on utilizing low-carbon, cost-effective natural gas to meet growing demand for reliable and environmentally responsible on-site power generation.
