Abu Dhabi Compression Plant Begins Operations

29 November 2018

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) has inaugurated its Taweelah gas compression plant, which will provide gas to Abu Dhabi’s industrial landscape and the northern portion of the United Arab Emirates.

The plant, situated 31 miles (50 km) north of Abu Dhabi, will use up to 450 MMcfd (12.7 X 106 m3/d) of gas supplied by ADNOC Gas Processing’s Maqta-Taweelah pipeline. The plant uses three compression trains, each with a processing capacity of 225 MMcfd (6.3 X 106 m3/d). Typically, two compressor trains will be operational with the third on standby.

Siemens received the order for the plant in 2016. The contract included establishing the onshore plant, as well as supplying three electric variable frequency drives, three Siemens’ Dresser-Rand Datum compressors, a 33 kV electrical substation, a cable corridor, pipelines, auxiliary equipment, safety and control systems and utilities.
