SIAD’s nitrogen compressor for Egyptian refinery

06 May 2021

Recently, SIAD Macchine Impianti (SIADMI) was selected by a leading Egyptian engineering company in the oil industry to supply a horizontal nitrogen compressor for a new hydrocracking unit at the Assiut oil refinery in central Egypt.

The plant will enable the supply of high-grade oil products, minimizing atmospheric emissions and maximizing the production of liquified petroleum gas (LPG), high-octane naphtha, low-sulphur diesel and aviation fuels.

The nitrogen compressor is a SIADMI’s type HDS2-1 special single-stage compressor with two horizontal cylinders in oil-free configuration and will be used for gas circulation not only within the hydrocracking unit but also between the desulfurization section, the catalytic reforming unit and the hydrogen plant unit (HPU).

Powered by a 760-kW motor, the compressor is characterized by its size and significant moving masses. SIAMI explained that this fact, dictated by the specific requirements of the production process, made it preferable to install the horizontal compressor not on a pre-assembled metal base, but directly onto a concrete foundation.

In order to guarantee the highest quality and cost-effectiveness, SIAD MI engineers will follow not only the compressor’s construction and delivery phases but also the supervision of its installation within the new plant, scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
