A new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station has opened in Columbus, Ohio. The station, the city’s fourth for public use, contains several ANGI Energy System packages powered by Ariel JGQ/2 compressors.

Ariel’s JGQ/2 compressor has a power output of 280 bhp (209 kW) at 1800 rpm. It features a 3 in. (76.2 mm) stroke and a 900 fpm (4.6 m/s) piston speed. The frame has a 20,000 lbs (88,964 N) total rod load, 10,000 lbs (44,482 N) tension rod load and an 11,000 lbs (48,930 N) compression rod load.

The city built the US$7.8 million station as part of a larger investment to create a CNG network in the city, as well as convert refuse trucks to run off CNG. So far, the city has converted more than 200 of its 360 refuse trucks.

Columbus has 255 dedicated CNG vehicles. City Finance and Management Director Joe Lombardi said the CNG switch has saved city taxpayers more than US$3 million in fueling costs since 2010.
