Turbomachinery Laboratory Names Interim Director

Texas A&M’s Turbomachinery Laboratory have named John A. Pappas as its interim director. He replaces Dara W. Childs, who retired this month after more than three decades with the Turbo Lab.

In this role, Pappas will manage operations at the laboratory oversee the organization’s support staff, which handle the Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia, Asia Turbomachinery & Pump Symposium and other related initiatives.

Pappas is familiar with the interim role. He served in a similar position for TEES’ Texas A&M Energy Institute and Texas A&M’s National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing.

Pappas is the director of strategic initiatives for the Texas A&M Engineering & Experiment Station (TEES), where he is responsible for business development and marketing, operations analysis and managerial and administrative support.

Pappas’ previous roles include the director of the Texas A&M Wind Energy Center, as well as federal government and private industry positions. He also played a key role in the success of a start-up company.

The Turbo Lab has already begun its search for a permanent director.
