Técnicas Reunidas wins $233 million contract for Coastal GasLink expansion
October 20, 2026
LNG Canada awards engineering and construction management contract covering five additional compressor stations and modifications to existing pipeline facilities
Técnicas Reunidas has secured a contract worth more than $233 million to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the second phase of the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline project in British Columbia, Canada.
The contract, awarded by LNG Canada to TR Canada E&C, includes detailed engineering, procurement and construction management for the expansion, which will add five compressor stations and involve modifications to existing and planned facilities along the pipeline route.
The project is expected to take more than four years to complete.
The expansion will increase the pipeline’s compression capabilities to support additional natural gas deliveries to LNG Canada’s liquefaction and export facilities in Kitimat, British Columbia.
Under the project’s integrated execution model, LNG Canada will lead construction as Phase 2 execution manager, while Técnicas Reunidas will provide EPCM services. Coastal GasLink will remain the pipeline’s owner, operator and permit holder.
LNG Canada is a joint venture involving Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp. and KOGAS.
The contract follows LNG Canada’s final investment decision on Phase 2, which advances the next stage of development of one of Canada’s largest private-sector energy infrastructure investments.
Técnicas Reunidas previously provided consulting and engineering services for the Coastal GasLink expansion, including work during the initial development and front-end engineering design (FEED) phases.
The Madrid-based engineering company said the award strengthens its position in the North American energy infrastructure market and expands its services business.
Técnicas Reunidas has operated in Canada since 2012 and maintains a permanent engineering office in Calgary. The company has completed more than 20 technical studies and engineering, procurement and construction projects in the country.
Globally, its midstream experience includes work on approximately 18,640 miles of oil and gas pipelines and more than 35 major compression projects.
The Coastal GasLink award follows another Canadian contract involving an EPC project for a power generation facility intended to supply a Meta data center and artificial intelligence hub.
Técnicas Reunidas said it has identified approximately $32.6 billion in potential projects across North America, including about a dozen large combined-cycle power generation facilities. Many of those opportunities are associated with growing electricity demand from data centers.
