Solar Turbines president Derrick York named Caterpillar group president
October 19, 2026
York will take over Resource Industries on Nov. 1, leaving a leadership vacancy at Caterpillar’s industrial gas turbine and compressor business
Caterpillar Inc. has appointed Derrick York, president of Solar Turbines and Caterpillar senior vice president, as group president of Resource Industries, effective Nov. 1.
York succeeds Denise Johnson, who will retire Feb. 1, 2027, after 15 years with Caterpillar. Johnson will serve in an advisory role during the transition.
Caterpillar did not announce a successor to York at Solar Turbines, which manufactures industrial gas turbines and compressors for oil and gas and power generation applications.
York has led Solar Turbines since 2023. During his 16 years with Caterpillar, he also served as senior vice president of the company’s Oil & Gas and Marine division and held leadership positions in finance and corporate development. Earlier in his career, he worked in banking and public accounting.
“Derrick is a highly respected leader who understands our customers, our strategy and the industries we serve,” said Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Joe Creed. “He is well positioned to lead the team into its next chapter of innovation, growth and customer success.”
