Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group has been awarded a contract to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification and cryogenic equipment for the New Providence Gas Project in Nassau, the Bahamas. The project is being developed by NPG, a joint venture to be formed by Shell and a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings Limited.

The New Providence Gas Project centers on an LNG receiving terminal designed to support additional power generation capacity at Clifton Pier. By switching from diesel to natural gas for both new and retrofitted turbines, the project aims to lower the carbon intensity of electricity production on the island.

Modular LNG-to-power system

Under the contract, Nikkiso will manufacture and deliver a packaged LNG regasification system with a capacity of 55 million standard cubic feet per day. The modular system includes high-pressure submerged centrifugal pumps on a pump skid, a gas-fired water bath vaporizer, power distribution and control systems, and an insulated pipeline using Nikkiso’s vacuum-jacketed technology. The company will also provide site-critical ancillary equipment and engineering services to support system integration.

According to Nikkiso, the standardized modular design is intended to reduce installation time and overall project cost.

“Nikkiso’s LNG-to-power solution is preferred by our customers because we can engineer, manufacture, install and service critical equipment which helps provide power via natural gas in some of the world’s most remote locations,” said Adrian Ridge, president and CEO of Nikkiso CE&IG Group. “This project is a good insight into how important cryogenic equipment is for companies like NPG looking to expand lower-carbon power generation.”

Nikkiso’s Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group supplies cryogenic equipment for energy and industrial applications worldwide, including LNG, hydrogen and other industrial gases. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Nikkiso Co.
