Expand Energy to deploy Baker Hughes’ AI technology

Baker Hughes announced an award from Expand Energy, North America’s largest natural gas producer, to deploy its Leucipa automated field production solution across thousands of gas-producing wells in the United States.

Baker Hughes announced a multi-year agreement with Expand Energy to deploy its Leucipa automated field production solution across thousands of gas-producing wells in the United States.

Under the agreement, Expand Energy, the largest natural gas producer in North America, will roll out Leucipa’s artificial intelligence-powered workflows across a diverse portfolio of wells in the Marcellus, Utica and Haynesville shale plays. The deployment is designed to help optimize production performance, streamline field operations and support more data-driven decision-making at scale, the companies said.

Leucipa’s Production Management and Field Optimizer services is designed to provide Expand Energy with real-time visibility into well, field and basin-level performance across its nationwide asset base. In addition, the operator will launch a pilot of “Lucy,” the Leucipa AI Production Assistant, which uses a generative AI-powered conversational interface to deliver real-time production insights and simplify decision-making for field and operations teams.

Leucipa will be delivered as a software-as-a-service platform hosted on Amazon Web Services, giving Expand Energy a secure and scalable environment for broad deployment across its portfolio. The cloud-based architecture is intended to simplify system management while supporting the integration of edge, on-premises and cloud-based data sources into a unified operating framework.

Beyond the initial rollout, the agreement includes plans for co-developing new digital workflows that integrate with Expand Energy’s existing tools. Planned applications include gas nomination and field forecasting workflows, which are expected to improve certainty around contract commitments and enhance scenario modeling capabilities in a dynamic market environment.

The deployment reflects a broader industry push to apply artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to mature and large-scale gas portfolios, where incremental efficiency gains can translate into meaningful improvements in production reliability, cost control and emissions performance.
