Drydocks World secures EPC contract for world’s largest floating LNG facility

Drydocks World, a DP World company, has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract by AMIGO LNG for what is set to become the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) liquefaction facility.

The multi-vessel project will include converting two LNG carriers into floating storage units (FSUs) and building two new FLNG barges at Drydocks World’s yard in Dubai. When operational in the second half of 2028, the facility will provide more than 4.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefaction capacity—surpassing any existing FLNG development worldwide.

AMIGO LNG is a joint venture between Texas-based Epcilon LNG LLC and Singapore-based LNG Alliance Pte. Ltd. The project will be located off Guaymas, Sonora, on Mexico’s Pacific coast and supplied with natural gas from the U.S. Permian Basin. Developers say its strategic location will shorten shipping distances to Asia compared with Gulf Coast export terminals, reducing transportation costs and emissions while creating a new LNG export corridor.

“This contract represents a major milestone for Drydocks World and Dubai,” said Capt. The EPC scope will be executed using a modular build strategy designed to ensure precision fabrication, seamless system integration and pre-commissioning in a controlled environment. This approach aims to shorten delivery schedules, minimize environmental impact, and enhance long-term reliability.

Drydocks World has previously completed more than 10 major LNG and floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) conversions.
