Chevron Corp., through its subsidiary Chevron Mediterranean Limited, and the working interest partners in the Leviathan natural gas reservoir have reached a final investment decision to expand production capacity at the offshore Leviathan platform, strengthening the project’s role as a key gas supply source for Israel and regional export markets.

Chevron said the expansion is expected to come online toward the end of the decade and will increase total gas deliveries from the Leviathan reservoir to approximately 21 billion cubic meters annually.

“Chevron is a leading energy player in the Eastern Mediterranean where we are focused on natural gas production and exports,” said Clay Neff, president of Chevron Upstream. “Our operations are critical to meeting the growing energy needs of local and regional markets.”

Neff said the decision reflects confidence in the region’s long-term energy outlook, citing the role of U.S. and regional energy policies in supporting energy security and investment across the Eastern Mediterranean and the broader Middle East.

The Leviathan expansion project includes drilling three additional offshore wells, installing new subsea infrastructure, and enhancing gas treatment facilities on the existing production platform. The upgrades are designed to support higher throughput as demand grows in Israel and neighboring markets.

“This milestone demonstrates our ongoing commitment to partner with the State of Israel to develop natural gas resources and provide essential energy to millions of people in Israel, Egypt and Jordan,” said Jack Baker, managing director of Chevron’s Eastern Mediterranean region.

The Leviathan production platform is located approximately 10 kilometers offshore Dor, Israel, and is one of the largest natural gas developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Chevron Mediterranean Limited operates the field with a 39.66% working interest. Other partners include NewMed Energy with 45.34% and Ratio Energies with 15%.

In addition to Leviathan, Chevron holds interests in several other Eastern Mediterranean assets, including the Tamar gas field offshore Israel and the Aphrodite gas field offshore Cyprus, which is currently under development. The company is also the operator of two exploration blocks offshore Egypt and holds a non-operated joint venture interest in an additional Egyptian Mediterranean block.
