Bechtel award covers turbines, compressors for Phase 2 project

Baker Hughes has been awarded a contract by Bechtel Energy Inc. to supply core liquefaction equipment for Sempra Infrastructure’s Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Jefferson County, Texas.
The order includes four Frame 7 gas turbines paired with eight centrifugal compressors across two LNG trains. The equipment package will support a nameplate capacity of about 13 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Baker Hughes will also supply two motor-driven compressors for the plant’s booster services.
Building on Phase 1 foundation
The latest award extends Baker Hughes’ technology role from Phase 1 of the Port Arthur LNG project, where its equipment has been installed and commissioned. Both phases are central to Sempra Infrastructure’s strategy to expand U.S. LNG export capacity in response to sustained global demand growth.
“Building on our successful collaboration with Baker Hughes on Phase 1 of the Port Arthur LNG project, we look forward to achieving more LNG project milestones together,” said Bhupesh Thakkar, general manager for Bechtel’s LNG business. “Baker Hughes’ technology solutions play a key role in our ability to enable the expansion of LNG capacity at Port Arthur LNG.”
Executives at Baker Hughes said the contract highlights the company’s continuing role in advancing liquefaction technology for the Gulf Coast LNG sector.
“We are delighted to continue as a key technology provider to Bechtel and Sempra Infrastructure in the ongoing expansion of the U.S. Gulf Coast LNG complex,” said Ganesh Ramaswamy, executive vice president of Industrial & Energy Technology at Baker Hughes. “This award builds on our track record of providing efficient, reliable LNG technology solutions that strengthen the global gas value chain and support a consistent supply of energy worldwide.”
Technology profile
Baker Hughes said its Frame 7 gas turbines and centrifugal compressors are designed to optimize production levels, while providing operational flexibility, high availability and lower emissions. The company described the Frame 7 as a proven technology recognized for its energy efficiency, reliability and maintainability.
With Phase 2, Sempra Infrastructure aims to significantly increase Port Arthur’s export capacity, advancing its role as one of the largest LNG projects on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
