MDR system designed to proactively detect, prevent cyberattacks

By DJ Slater

Siemens Energy added another cybersecurity product to its portfolio as the energy industry continues to swiftly incorporate digitalization. The company has introduced Managed Detection and Response (MDR), powered by Eos.ii, an artificial intelligence- (AI-) driven cybersecurity monitoring service for energy companies.

MDR proactively detects and prevents cyberattacks against operating technology (OT) regardless of fleet size. The service collects raw IT and OT data from an operator’s entire operating environment and translates and contextualizes it in real time. Once collected, the service can then offer a view on anomalies and potential attacks with actionable insights.

“When we built MDR and our Eos.ii platform, we wanted to protect the weakest link. We wanted to focus on small and medium-sized companies and give them robust defenses to level the playing field,” said Leo Simonovich, head of industrial cybersecurity at Siemens Energy. “We wanted something purpose-built for energy and to accommodate the diversity of the energy system. We deliver this as a service that they can pick up and run with.”
