Bavarian Dream Order For MAN

28 November 2017

Bayernets GmbH has provided MAN Diesel & Turbo with a contract for three Motor Pipeline Compressors (MOPICO) for a remote natural gas line network in Bavaria.

The new compressor station that will house the compressors has been under construction in the Prettelshofen district of Wertingen since September. The MOPICO, type RM 50 compressors are designed, manufactured and tested in Zurich, Switzerland and will compress the natural gas to about 1200 psi (80 bar). They are hermetically sealed, are equipped with magnetic bearings and can be operated oil-free.

“Over the next couple of years, Bavaria will be dependent on a reliable supply of natural gas,” said Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Diesel & Turbo. “Until the grid extension is completed, the gas power plants will form the backbone of our energy supply. We are proud to make a contribution for this purpose.”

The compressors are set for summer 2018 delivery, with the compressor station going online in 2019. Per the agreement, MAN will handle installation and commissioning as well as maintenance services for the next 20 years.
