ADNOC and SLB deploy AI-powered system to enhance upstream productivity

New AiPSO platform to optimize production and boost workforce efficiency across 25 fields by 2027

Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) has launched a new artificial intelligence-powered Production System Optimization (AiPSO) platform in partnership with SLB and Cognite, marking a significant milestone in its goal to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. The announcement was made during ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi.

The AiPSO platform, powered by SLB’s Lumi data and AI platform and leveraging Cognite Data Fusion, integrates millions of real-time data points and ADNOC’s proprietary machine learning to proactively monitor and optimize the company’s entire production system. That includes thousands of hydrocarbon wells and hundreds of processing facilities across onshore and offshore operations.

According to ADNOC, AiPSO enables smart workflows that link office and field operations in real time, allowing engineers to diagnose and optimize wells within minutes rather than days. This capability enhances workforce productivity, shortens decision-making cycles and supports ADNOC’s strategy to increase oil and gas production capacity.

“AiPSO will transform the productivity of our upstream operations as we work to become the most AI-enabled energy company,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, ADNOC’s upstream CEO. “This industry-leading solution will support our strategy to increase production capacity while significantly enhancing the productivity of our people by freeing them to pursue value-adding opportunities and completing complex tasks up to ten times faster.”

Following initial deployment across eight upstream fields, ADNOC plans to roll out AiPSO across all 25 of its onshore and offshore fields by 2027. The initiative reflects ADNOC’s broader push to integrate AI technologies throughout its operations to improve efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Olivier Le Peuch, SLB CEO, said AiPSO exemplifies the value of combining artificial intelligence with domain expertise. “We are proud to continue our collaboration with ADNOC to jointly deliver advanced digital and AI solutions that drive long-term value and operational resilience for ADNOC both today and tomorrow,” he said.

AiPSO complements ADNOC’s existing ENERGYai platform, developed with AIQ, which the company describes as the first “agentic” AI solution in the energy sector. Together, the two platforms form a key part of ADNOC’s integrated digital strategy to improve operational performance across the energy value chain.
