ABB Debuts XIO To Improve Wellhead Connectivity

June 30, 2020

ABB has released a new smart remote I/O expansion (XIO) unit that works in conjunction with its RMC-100 controller. The XIO unit allows operators to expand their RMC-100 controller up to 22 I/O modules. It is designed to improve wellhead connectivity, giving operators with one central access point to monitor brownfield sites and improve digital connectivity in greenfield operations.

The XIO also features auto-detection configuration with pre-configured I/O, which provides easy installation, ABB said. The expansion unit’s I/O modules include hot swappable features with backward compatibility. Additionally, the XIO has four Ethernet and eight serial ports with wireless and Bluetooth capabilities.

According to ABB, the XIO also provides greater safety across all areas of multiple sites by increasing process variable monitoring. Along with extending its RMC-100 controller and XSeries controllers, the XIO is compatible with a wide range of controllers across the market.
