GPA Midstream Association announced a leadership transition following the retirement of Micheal Dunn, who will step down May 2 from his role as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Williams Companies. Dunn’s retirement also includes stepping down as GPA Midstream chair several months ahead of his scheduled term end in September.

Greg Floerke, executive vice president and chief operating officer at MPLX, will succeed Dunn as GPA Midstream chair and serve the remainder of the two-year term. Bill Johnson, vice president of midstream operations at Phillips 66, has been named chair-elect.

Dunn leaves the industry after a 37-year career in the midstream and energy sectors. A civil engineering graduate from the University of Oklahoma, he began his career at Williams, where he played a role in the construction of the Kern River Gas Transmission System. Over the course of his career, Dunn held several executive leadership positions, including:

  • executive vice president and COO at Williams
  • president of Questar Pipeline and executive vice president of Questar Corporation
  • president and CEO of PacifiCorp Energy, a multi-state power generating company under Berkshire Hathaway Energy
  • president of Kern River Gas Transmission Company, also a Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary

Reflecting on his industry involvement, Dunn praised the GPA Midstream Association’s role in shaping industry standards.

“GPA Midstream is one of the only entities out there that can set standards for the industry,” Dunn said. “The organization has a long legacy of managing those standards for our industry, and I don’t see that changing. As executives in this industry, we need to encourage our employees to participate — to get on the committees and drive the changes and improvements we continue to seek for our industry.”

GPA Midstream, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, represents companies in the midstream sector of the natural gas industry, including gas processors, pipeline operators and equipment manufacturers.
