Webinar to spotlight practical CCS solutions for compression and storage

Speakers from Baker Hughes and Caterpillar to share case studies and deployment insights

A technical webinar scheduled for Dec. 4 will explore real-world challenges and innovations in carbon capture and storage (CCS), with presentations from leading technology providers and operators. Organized for an audience of engineers, project managers and decarbonization professionals, the session will focus on practical strategies for deploying CCS systems across the value chain—from CO₂ compression and pipeline transport to subsurface storage and regulatory compliance.

The webinar will feature two 20–25-minute technical presentations, followed by a written Q&A session with participants.

Baker Hughes: integrated CCUS solutions across the value chain

Gianluca di Federico, CCUS demand generation leader for Baker Hughes’ Industrial & Energy Technology segment, will discuss integrated carbon management strategies. With more than a decade of experience in carbon capture commercialization, di Federico has worked with both post-combustion and oxy-combustion technologies and now leads a global team focused on developing holistic CCS solutions.

His presentation will address approaches to designing and deploying end-to-end carbon management systems that incorporate capture, transportation and secure geological storage. Topics include system design considerations, cost optimization and the role of digital tools in monitoring and compliance.

Caterpillar: carbon capture solutions for gas compression applications

The second session will be led by Garett Lambert, low carbon solutions process engineer at Caterpillar Oil & Gas. Lambert will present results from two full-scale carbon capture technologies tailored for gas compression and power generation applications. The discussion will include:

Semi-Closed Cycle (SCC) system: How this design reduces carbon capture system size and cost while improving gas turbine performance, including a case study on a Solar Turbines Taurus 60 operating at full scale.

CO₂-TSA pilot system: Findings from a 20-ton-per-day post-combustion capture pilot using waste heat and engine backpressure, along with insights on scaling to more than 500 TPD for commercial use.

The session will also cover economic comparisons, including capital and operating costs, and assess how system designs can lower the Levelized Cost of Carbon Capture (LCOCC) below the $85/tonne incentive under the 45Q tax credit.

The webinar is designed for technical professionals across the energy, midstream and decarbonization sectors seeking actionable insights into CCS project execution. Topics will span CO₂ pipeline design, compression technologies, subsurface storage, and regulatory permitting for Class VI wells and PHMSA compliance.
