VIDEO: Caterpillar G3520K Gas Gen-set Targets Evolving Energy Needs

Premium Content

Eliza Squire, territory manager- Northeast USA, for Caterpillar’s Large Electric Power Division, shares how the new 2,500- to 2,541-kW G3520K gas generator set is designed to meet customers’ evolving energy, sustainability and reliability needs. The new model comes in three configurations, all of which provide enhanced transient response, fuel flexibility and CHP readiness in a compact, power dense package. It will be produced at Caterpillar’s Lafayette (Indiana) Large Engine Center.

Features at a glance:

  • Compact design with greater power density in a smaller package to fit in tighter spaces and allow for more site flexibility.
  • High efficiency (HE) or a high response (HR) configurations (launched in December 2024), with a low energy configuration (for low energy fuels) scheduled to be available later this year.
  • 96.7 L G3250K engine featuring a robust high-speed block design, advanced ignition system and air/fuel ratio control for lower emission and engine efficiency and a single electronic control module to handle all engine functions.
  • Optimized compression ratio (10.5:1) on the engine to ensure peak compression.
  • Improved air system includes adjustments to the aftercooler and turbocharger to boost air efficiency and improve transient response.
  • Engine is capable of burning natural gas, biogas, propane, coal mine gases and hydrogen blends.
  • Proven proprietary direct drive gearbox on the 60-Hz version does not require an extended stub shaft, eliminating the extra length previously required in the housing.
