TotalEnergies brings Ballymore Deepwater online

Boosts U.S. Gulf gas, oil output

TotalEnergies has announced first production from the deepwater Ballymore field in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, adding new natural gas and oil volumes to its growing offshore portfolio. The company holds a 40% stake in the project, operated by Chevron (60%).

Located about 120 kilometers off the Louisiana coast, Ballymore was launched in May 2022 and is now producing through a subsea tieback to Chevron’s Blind Faith floating production unit. The project has a gross daily capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil and 50 million cubic feet of gas, contributing valuable new volumes to the region’s offshore natural gas production.

For TotalEnergies, the project will deliver close to 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) at plateau — a mix of oil and gas production considered cash-accretive for the company’s deepwater business. The Ballymore development leverages existing infrastructure and standardized equipment, helping to reduce both capital costs and emissions intensity, a growing focus for operators in the Gulf of Mexico.

“The start-up of Ballymore will increase TotalEnergies’ production capacity in U.S. deepwater to more than 75,000 boe/d and contribute to the Company’s targeted hydrocarbon production growth of over 3% in 2025,” said Nicolas Terraz, President, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies. He added that the U.S. remains a key market for the company’s integrated energy strategy, combining competitive, lower-emission upstream projects with expanding LNG and integrated power developments.

Ballymore’s gas production enhances the region’s offshore natural gas output at a time when Gulf of Mexico infrastructure and LNG export projects are increasingly strategic in supplying both domestic and global energy markets.
