Siemens Introduces New Gas Turbine To O&G Market

Siemens has launched a new aeroderivative gas turbine designed for the offshore oil and gas industry. The SGT-A35 RB, previously known as the Industrial RB211-GT30, is based on the Industrial RB211 and Industrial Trent 60 gas turbines, which is built with Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Technology.

The SGT-A35 RB is a turbine derived from Rolls-Royce aerospace and marine Trent, as well as Siemens Industrial Trent 60. The new turbine, which can generate up to 38 MW, is integrated into a compact Dresser-Rand package that is 30% smaller and lighter than its Industrial RB211 predecessors. The construction of the package makes it suitable for offshore applications, such as floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels.

The SGT-A35 RB is available in 34 and 38 MW variants to match a range of application requirements. Both ratings are available for mechanical drive and 50 or 60 Hz electrical generation, Siemens said. In this configuration, the gas turbine can directly drive a 2-pole A/C generator without a gearbox.

The gas turbine is also ideal in hot climates, boosting a thermal efficiency that exceeds 40% at ISO conditions. At 86°F (30°C), the gas turbine retains more than 90% of its ISO power output, Siemens said.
