MAN Supplying Six Compressor Trains For MODEC FPSO Vessel

20 May 2019

MODEC has selected MAN Energy Solutions to supply six compressor trains for a new floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. The compressor trains will be used for gas production on the FPSO.

The order consists of six centrifugal compressor trains – three medium-/high-pressure; two low-pressure; and one fuel gas compressor train with a single-stage centrifugal compressor driven by a fixed-speed electric motor. The medium-/high-pressure trains feature three intercooled, two-stage centrifugaul compressors driven by a fixed-speed electric motor, while the low-pressure trains feature two single-stage centrifugal compressors driven by a variable speed electric motor. MAN Energy Solutions will design, manufacture and test the compressor trains in Zurich, Switzerland.

The FPSO, owned and operated by MODEC, will be located in the offshore Area 1 block, which is about 6.2 miles (10 km) off the coast of Mexico at a water depth of 105 ft. (32 m). A consortium of two companies – Eni Mexico and Qatar Petroleum – own this area.

The compressor trains will be installed in the FPSO in February 2020. Once operational, the compressor trains will help maintain the pressure of the Area 1 block. The FPSO will be able to process 90,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 75 MMcfd (2.1 X 106 m3/d) of natural gas. First production is set for 2021.
