Hotstart nets approvals to enhance worldwide coverage

Pat Norwood knows all about living on the road. As Hotstart’s Oil & Gas sales director, Norwood spends most of his time away from home selling his company’s coolant and oil heating systems to several companies across multiple time zones.

In those zones furthest from the United States, however, Hotstart ran into issues with certifications. While the company has ATEX certification, markets like Australia and New Zealand require IECEx, which is the International Electrotechnical Commission’s safety standard for explosive atmospheres. Without this certification, Hotstart’s customers in these regions are forced to either make modifications to the equipment or find it elsewhere.

Hotstart wanted to be able to provide their customers with what they needed, which is why the company has added IECEx certification across three of its heating systems – OLA, CLA and OCLA – while also adding two new systems – OSA and CSA – to its lineup.

“We realized we had to go after this international explosion-proof rating,” Norwood said. “It’s opened doors for us. Since November 2018, we’ve sold equipment much easier because we have that certification.”
