GPA Midstream latest show to fall during COVID-19 pandemic

23 March 2020

The GPA Midstream Association has canceled its 2020 GPA Midstream Convention, scheduled for April 19-22 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The worldwide spread of the coronavirus, and the efforts by federal and state authorities to curb its severity, led to the decision.

“The unknown duration of the coronavirus impact makes rescheduling our event during 2020 impractical,” the association said in a statement on its website.

The association held out hope that the show could still take place during its scheduled time, but as other events – the GCA Expo & Conference (March 24-27) and the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable (May 5-7) – started canceling, event organizers made the call on Monday afternoon to follow suit.

The association will refund all convention registration fees in the next seven to 10 days, as well as all hospitality, sponsorship and Vendor Night fees. Convention registrants should cancel their individual hotel reservations, the association said.

The association is also reviewing alternatives for handling the industry recognitions, presentations and committee work that normally take place at the convention. Those details will be available at a later time.

Because the association must pay certain service provider fees due to contractual commitments regardless of the event’s outcome, it seeks donations to help cover those costs. Those willing to donate registration, hospitality, exhibit or sponsorship fees – or outright donations – should contact Crystal Myers at [email protected].

With the unprecedented impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the industry, COMPRESSORTECH2 will provide updated coverage across its website. If you have news to share, please contact editor DJ Slater at [email protected]
