GE Power Provides Variable Speed Drive System For Oman LNG Plant

By CT2 Staff02 July 2019

GE Power received a contract to supply a variable speed drive system (VSDS) to increase the production capacity of the Oman LNG plant in Qalhat near Sur, Oman.

Oman LNG made the move as part of its effort to debottleneck various systems and optimize existing compressor train performance at the plant. According to Oman LNG, this effort will improve the plant’s overall production across three compressor trains.

GE Power’s VSDS, which includes a high-voltage motor and variable speed drive, offers high speed and efficiency to increase compressor train production, the company said. The VSDS also features a small footprint and less auxiliary requirements to ensure plant layout flexibility and easier plant integration. GE Power has 150 VSDS installed globally, with the system accumulating 4.5 million operating hours.

“The oil and gas landscape is shifting as such that companies are turning attention to the more environmental friendly LNG sources to meet the energy demand,” said Ed Torres, CEO of marine and oil and gas at GE’s Power Conversion business. “We have a track record to deliver some of the world’s landmark LNG projects.”
