Cooper Machinery Services expands turbocharger business with Alamo acquisition

Cooper Machinery Services has acquired Canadian turbocharger service provider Alamo Industries Ltd. (AIL) and Alamo Turbocharger Services (ATSI), expanding the geographic reach and technical capabilities of its Turbocharger Solutions International (TSI) division.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition adds operations in Alberta and Washington state, strengthening Cooper’s presence across the western United States and Canada while extending its turbocharger service capabilities into marine and small-frame natural gas applications.

Founded in 1978, Alamo provides turbocharger overhaul, repair, parts supply and exchange services for customers in the oil and gas, marine, on-highway diesel, agricultural, mining and power generation sectors. The company operates facilities in the Calgary and Edmonton regions of Alberta, as well as Kent, Washington.

According to Cooper, Alamo’s capabilities include servicing large-, medium- and small-frame turbochargers, along with related components such as wastegates, manifolds and intercoolers. The company has also developed a proprietary marine turbocharger solution designed for ocean-going vessels operating in demanding conditions.

For the natural gas compression industry, the acquisition enhances Cooper’s ability to provide aftermarket support for turbochargers used on reciprocating engines that power compressor stations, particularly in western Canada and the U.S. Rocky Mountain region.

The acquired business will become part of Cooper’s Turbocharger Solutions International division, which has served the gas pipeline, petroleum, power generation, marine and locomotive industries since 1972. TSI is the original equipment manufacturer for the Cooper-Bessemer, DeLaval and Elliott turbocharger product lines and operates from facilities in Salina and McPherson, Kansas.

The transaction continues Cooper’s strategy of expanding its aftermarket service network and technical capabilities for the large installed base of reciprocating engines and compressors operating across the natural gas value chain.

Cooper Machinery Services is the OEM for brands including AJAX, Cooper-Bessemer, Enterprise, Gemini, Superior, TSI and Texcentric, while also providing aftermarket support for non-OEM equipment, including Caterpillar G Series, Clark, Ingersoll Rand, Waukesha VHP and Worthington engines and compressors.
