Burckhardt to supply compressors to petrochemical plant
By Keefe Borden03 December 2021
Burckhardt Compression has signed a contract with Jiangsu Hongjing New Material Company to supply three hyper compressors and three primary boosters to a major petrochemical plant under construction in Lianyungang, China.
Burckhardt will equip three production lines for ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) at the plant, which will ultimately produce 600 kilotons per year of EVA and LDPE.
The hyper compressors are high-pressure reciprocating machines compressing ethylene with discharge pressure of up to 3,500 bar. Polymers for various demands EVA and LDPE are raw materials for products such as foils, electric cables or floor coverings.
Specifically, the three 200 kilotons per year photovoltaic class ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers plants will help to satisfy the worldwide demand for EVA polymer, which, shaped as a film, is used in solar panels as an insulating and sealing agent around the solar cells, Burckhardt said
The mega-plant in East China Jiangsu Hongjing New Material Company Ltd., a subsidiary of Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Co. Ltd. is a mostly privately-owned company in China that refines petroleum products and manufactures chemical products.
The mega-plant will help to satisfy China’s growing demand for EVA polymer, driven by the switch from traditional hydrocarbon-based energy production to renewable energy.
Burckhardt said it has already delivered primary boosters and hyper compressors for the first phase of this project. The current stage of expansion is the second one of this mega-plant.
“We are proud to have been selected for this mega project and would like to thank Jiangsu Hongjing New Material Company for their trust in our compressor technology and service capabilities,” said Fabrice Billard, Burckhardt’s president systems division.
“We are very glad to have selected Burckhardt Compression AG as the supplier of very critical equipment in this important project, which is supporting the transition of the Chinese economy towards renewable energy,” said Hengjun Zhu, deputy general manager, Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Co.
