Sweden’s Preem has chosen Burckhardt Compression to supply two fully packaged API 618 process gas compressors for its refinery in Lysekil, Sweden, where they will be used to produce renewable diesel fuel.

Preem and Topsoe, a process licensor, collaborate to revamp the Synsat & ICR unit at Preem’s Lysekil refinery. Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology is used to produce clean renewable diesel, based on various renewable feedstocks, including rapeseed oil. The unit is scheduled to be fully rebuilt by 2024. The revamp will support Preem with up to 1 000 000 standard cubic meters per year of renewable diesel securing 40% co-processing, Burckhardt announced.

Preem is Sweden`s largest refiner, with two plants in Gothenburg and Lysekil. Preem accounts for 80% of the Swedish refinery capacity and 30% of the Nordic refinery capacity.

Burckhardt Compression will deliver a make-up gas compressor for the Synsat unit to compress hydrogen gas, and an off-gas compressor for the ICR unit to compress hydrogen mixed HC gases.

Burckhardt also provides compressors for all refinery applications including hydrocrackers, hydrotreaters, and sour gas services.
