ABB has expanded its NINVA non-invasive temperature measurement product line with the introduction of NINVA Integrated, NINVA Remote and NINVA Compact, providing operators with additional options for monitoring process temperatures without cutting into piping or shutting down operations.

The NINVA sensors clamp directly to the outside of a pipe and infer process temperature from surface measurements, eliminating the need for traditional thermowells and associated hot work. ABB said the technology can reduce engineering, installation and maintenance costs while simplifying temperature measurement upgrades in existing facilities.

NINVA Integrated is designed for chemical and oil and gas applications, while NINVA Remote targets high-temperature environments such as steam and gas systems in power generation facilities. NINVA Compact is intended for space-constrained applications and mobile equipment, including marine installations.

ABB said the technology can reduce workload and capital expenditures by up to 75% compared with conventional thermowell installations. The company also noted that NINVA became the first SIL2-certified non-invasive temperature transmitter in 2024.

The sensors are designed for brownfield applications where adding temperature measurement points can be challenging due to process interruptions, welding requirements and installation costs.
