October 17, 2016

SKF and GE Oil & Gas have signed a non-exclusive, license-based collaboration agreement, in order to develop more uses for active magnetic bearings.

SKF will bring their core expertise of bearing technology to GE’s established large-scale process and service capabilities. The partnership is an opportunity for future collaboration, and more applications for active magnetic bearings could be brought to other GE Oil & Gas turbomachinery, such as steam and gas turbines.

“SKF’s active magnetic bearing technology has already enabled a number of breakthroughs within the oil and gas sector,” said Victoria van Camp, president of Business and Product Development at SKF. “Through this agreement, we are strengthening our technology leadership and enhancing our relationship with GE Oil & Gas. We are also implementing a new business model, which will ensure that we widen the scope of applications for these technologies.”
