Burckhardt closes acquisition of Dutch machine shop

The purchase provides Burckhardt with highly specialized machining expertise and repair capabilities for its global customer base.

Burckhardt Compression has closed its previously announced purchase of Dutch-based Mark van Schaick BV, a machine and service company that can make complex repairs on diesel engines and crankshafts. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

After the contract for the acquisition of Mark van Schaick BV, based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, was signed on Dec. 2, the closing took place on Dec. 21. Mark van Schaick BV is now a fully owned subsidiary of Burckhardt Compression.

In 2020, Mark van Schaick recorded sales of about CHF 9 million with 27 employees. The acquisition enables Burckhardt Compression to complement its repair and service capabilities in Europe and further expands its presence in the service business for reciprocating compressors.

The acquisition also gives Burckhardt highly specialized machining expertise and repair capabilities for the global customer base in the maritime and petrochemical industry. “In line with our strategic ambitions, we strengthen our repair and machining capabilities with highly specialized know-how to serve our customers as full-service provider” said Marcel Pawlicek, CEO of Burckhardt Compression.

Mark van Schaick established his namesake company in Rotteram in 2000. The company repairs crankshafts, connecting rods, engine blocks, bearings, pistons, piston rods, industrial rotating equipment such as turbine axles, pump axles, rotor axles of electric motors and white metal bearings. Its customers are shipowners and manufacturers of diesel engines and crankshafts.

Burckhardt Compression is the worldwide manufacturer and service provider of reciprocating compression systems. Its customized compressor systems are used in the gas gathering and processing, gas transport and storage, refinery, chemical, petrochemical as well as in the industrial gas and hydrogen mobility and energy sectors.
