Burckhardt Compression Returns For A Revamp

16 May 2018

Burckhardt Compression has received a contract from Golar Management to revamp a Laby-GI compressor operating on a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) near Jamaica.

The compressor has spent the past 10 years on the FSRU vessel Golar Freeze, being used as a minimum send-out (MSO) compressor with a discharge pressure of 653 psig (45 barg).

Golar Management, however, decided to repurpose the compressor to deliver gas to Jamaica’s power utility JPS, a move that requires an additional compression stage, extra auxiliaries, piping and other modifications, such as increasing the discharge pressure to 943 psig (65 barg).

Golar Management, based in Norway, is an independent owner and operator of LNG carriers and FSRUs, as well as a developer of floating liquefaction vessels (FLNGVs). FSRUs are designed to transit and transfer LNG through oceanic channels. FSRUs also have the capability to convert LNG to natural gas in order to transfer it to onshore gas pipeline and power production operations.
