Voith Group plans to be carbon neutral by 2022. To accomplish this, the company will purchase carbon-neutral electricity in the near future, rely more heavily on renewable energy sources and offer compensation for unavoidable carbon emissions. Voith also plans to invest €5 million annually in energy efficiency.

“As a global technology company, we consider the efficient use of resources and energy at all locations worldwide to be part of our entrepreneurial responsibility,” said Toralf Haag, president and CEO of the Voith Group. “By combining economic principles with ecological commitment, we are not only making a contribution to climate protection but are at the same time creating quantifiable added value for our company.”

Voith also plans to invest €50 million into improving the energy efficiency of its plants and buildings around the world. Currently, Voith purchases one-third of its electrical needs from renewable resources, the company said, while also ranking high regarding its sustainability practices. The company obtained gold status in 2018 from the EcoVadis rating and is in the top 20% of companies for its sustainability activities, based on oekom research AG’s rating from 2017.

“We continue on from Voith’s traditions as a family-owned company based on our understanding of sustainability: the obligation to ecologically clean and fair actions, and to return a profit over the long term,” Haag said. “This is not only good for the environment and society in general but also makes economic sense.”
