Pipeline Orders Everest Sciences Chillers

Two ECOChill units set for compressor station in Pennsylvania

Published:

Kinder Morgan has ordered two of Everest Sciences Corp.’s ECOChill units for its Uniondale Compresssor station on the Tennessee Gas Pipeline near West Clifford, Pennsylvania.

The hybrid turbine inlet units will provide filtered and chilled inlet air to a Solar Taurus 70 turbine and a Centaur 40 turbine that drive compressors, enabling them to operate at consistent winter-like capacity during warm weather days.

Everest said when ambient air temperature rises, gas turbine output decreases, reducing the horsepower available to push natural gas through the pipeline. It said the other options for cooling turbine inlet air, the mechanical chilling or direct evaporative methods, have higher energy costs or are not as effective.

An ECOChill installation at a southern Wyoming pipeline station has enabled consistent inlet air temperatures between 45° and 55°F (7.2° and 12.7°C), increasing horsepower over the summer months (COMPRESSORtech2, Jan.-Feb. 2014, p. 16). Other Everest Sciences installations serve gas processing and natural gas liquids facilities in Texas.
