Compressor Stations Come Under Fire – Literally

Two blazes in nearly two week span injure one, damage structures

Published:

In a nearly two week span from Dec. 25 to Jan. 6, two compression stations came under fire – literally.

An explosion and flash fire on Dec. 25 at a Legacy Resources natural gas compressor station in Riverton, Wyoming injured one man. An official with the Fremont County Fire Protection District stated that the explosion blew out the station’s windows and a large overhead door, and the interior suffered extensive damage. Despite the incident, the building was still standing afterwards.

The fire occurred in Legacy’s North Alkali field, which sits about three to four miles east of the Sand Draw Road. The man sustained burns and was taken to Riverton Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known.

On Jan. 6, several Broome County fire departments were called out to a Williams natural gas compressor station fire in West Windsor, New York. Eight departments assisted West Windsor Fire just after 7 p.m. No injuries were reported and, according to a Williams representative, the fire was contained to a single building.
