Downhole Gas Compressor Field Trials Set

Monday, October 22, 2012

The U.K. firm Corac Energy Technologies is planning field tests for its downhole compressor at an undisclosed gas field in the U.S.

The compact, high-speed turbocompressor would be installed in the bore of a declining gas well to extend production life.

The company, based in Slough, Berkshire, said a prototype has been tested in a flow loop using methane at controlled temperatures, pressures and flow rates that duplicate conditions faced during field deployment.

Corac said its engineers have resolved technical challenges facing the downhole electronics module operating in high temperatures. The company plans to develop small batches of different compressors, with each batch configured to operate in gas fields with particular characteristics.
