Mitsubishi Forms New U.S. Compressor Firm
Monday, September 24, 2012
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corp. (MCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI), has established a U.S. subsidiary for sales and servicing of large compressors.
The new company, MHI Compressor International Corp. (MCO-I), will begin operations in October. MCO, through MCO-I, aims to collaboratively expand its compressor business in North America by conducting marketing activities closely with Mitsubishi Corp. (MC), which is also planning to partially invest in MCO-I.
The Houston-based MCO-I also will contribute to MCO's engineering and after-sale servicing of compressors and related equipment throughout North America and Mexico. Gampa Bhat, who was formerly a chief engineer at ExxonMobil Chemical Co., was named MCO-I president.
MCO said the U.S. has an enormous market for large-size industrial-use compressors, accounting for a near 20% share of the global market. It said that due to the growth in shale gas production, it expects growth in opportunities to build gas-related plants, liquefied natural gas shipping facilities, and ethylene and other petrochemical plants.
