Vibration Monitoring Box Receives Key Approval

Hazardous Area Class 1 Division 2 approval; 8-channel junction box converts installed sensors to wireless operation

IMI Sensors (IMI), a division of PCB Piezotronics Inc., has received CSA approval of its Echo Wireless Vibration Monitoring System (model CS672A01) for vibration monitoring in Class 1 Division 2 Hazardous Area applications.

The new certification contains the following approval: Class I, Div. 2, Groups A, B, C and D, T4 (-20°C < Ta < 70 C).

The company said possible vibration monitoring applications include placement on motors, pumps and fans, especially those in remote, inaccessible and hazardous locations.

The wireless technology of the system supplements the collection of route-based data on healthy machines and allows plant operators to focus their manpower on higher value tasks such as fault analysis to diagnose unhealthy machinery, IMI said.

It also enables the collection of machine health monitoring data in hazardous areas, eliminating the need to collect routine measurements from dangerous places.

The 8-channel junction box instantly converts installed industrial sensors to wireless operation. The default transmission interval is 8 hours, but it is also user-programmable, IMI said.
