Bolivia to Get GE’s ICL Compressors

Incahuasi field being developed to export natural gas to Argentina

Published:

GE Oil & Gas has made the first Latin American sale of its advanced ICL compressors to Total S.A., which will use two of the single-stage units at a new compressor station for the Incahuasi project in Bolivia.

Incahuasi field, on the Ipati-Aquio Block in the Andean foothills, is being developed to export natural gas to Argentina.

The ICL compressor technology is driven by a high-speed electric motor rather than a gas turbine. As a result, it generates no emissions as opposed to conventional compressors. With these two units in Latin America, GE has sold 26 ICL units globally.

“Total selected our electric motor-driven compressors instead of using small gas turbines as the drivers based on operational benefits such as lower emissions, reliability and installation cost savings,” said João Geraldo Ferreira, president and CEO for GE Oil & Gas Latin America.
