ISA Developing New Automation Professional Certification

Published:

In Fall 2004, ISA will award certification to the first group of Certified Automation Professionals (CAPs). ISA's new automation certification will establish an identity for the automation professional and provide recognition for individuals working in automation and control.

The certification will give employers an objective measure for hiring and advancement decisions and a method for identifying qualified contractors to work on automation projects. Automation certification will also serve as a motivator for individuals to learn more about the broad field of automation.

In addition to passing a comprehensive exam, CAPs will need to meet other eligibility requirements. They must hold a four-year technical degree in engineering, math, computer science, physics, or other technical areas; and possess at least five years of professional experience in automation.
